Photocircuits — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 September 2026

Photocircuits solves electrical circuits from a photo or a hand-drawn sketch. This policy explains what the app collects, what it sends elsewhere, and what it never does.

Summary

There is no account and no sign-up. The app does not ask for your name, email address, phone number or location. Nothing you scan or draw is shared with anyone else unless you explicitly turn on the optional settings below.

What the app sends when you scan a circuit

When you photograph a circuit, the picture is sent to an AI model through OpenRouter so the circuit can be recognised and turned into a netlist. It is used only to answer that one request. Circuits you draw by hand are solved entirely on your device and are not sent anywhere.

Optional data sharing (off by default)

In Settings → Privacy & data you can turn on either of these. Both stay off until you turn them on, and you can turn them off again at any time.

Everything is stored on your device first and uploaded to our collector in batches when the app is open. You can see a summary, export all of it as one JSON file, or delete it permanently, in Settings → Privacy & data → Collected data. Delete my shared data (in Help & bonus scans) also asks our server to erase everything stored under your install identifier and gives the app a new one.

Feedback and the survey

When you rate a walkthrough, tell us why it did not help, or answer the five-question survey, that is sent to us on purpose, whether or not the optional sharing above is on. A rating carries the method you used, the question, your reasons and comment, and the circuit itself as a text netlist, so we can reproduce the problem. Survey answers carry only what you chose or typed. None of it carries your name or contact details unless you type them yourself.

Bonus scans

To thank you for helping, the app pays bonus scans: for turning scan sharing on, for correcting a misread circuit while sharing is on, for rating a walkthrough and for answering the survey. Bonus scans are spent only when the free scan allowance is full. They are a thank-you, never a condition: every feature works the same whether or not you take part, and turning sharing off later does not take earned bonus scans away.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. The app uses RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active; RevenueCat receives a randomly generated app user identifier and the receipt Apple issues. The app never sees or stores your payment details.

What we do not collect

No name, email address, phone number or postal address. No location. No contacts, calendars, health data or advertising identifiers. The app does not track you across other apps or websites, and no data is sold or used for advertising.

Children

The app is a study tool suitable for general audiences. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children, because it does not collect personal information at all.

Data retention

Data kept on your device stays until you delete it or remove the app. Pictures sent for recognition are processed to produce a result and are not retained for any other purpose. Scans, usage events, feedback and survey answers you shared are kept, grouped only by a random install identifier, until you delete them from the app or ask us to; scan pictures with their netlists are used to evaluate and train the circuit reader.
